WWE Backlash Title Matches: Damian Priest Defends against Jey Uso, Cody Rhodes Faces AJ Styles

WWE Backlash to feature World Heavyweight Championship Match

On April 15th, it was announced that the first title match for WWE Backlash on May 4th would feature World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest defending his title against Jey Uso. Uso earned his shot at the title by defeating Drew McIntyre, Ricochet, and Bronson Reed in a four-way match on the same episode of RAW. The interference of CM Punk in the match cost McIntyre the victory and directly led to Uso’s win.

In addition to the World Heavyweight Championship match, Cody Rhodes is also set to defend his title at Backlash. The challenger for Rhodes will be determined on the April 19th episode of WWE SmackDown, where LA Knight will face AJ Styles.

Priest won the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE WrestleMania 40 by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on Drew McIntyre, who had just dethroned Seth Rollins. McIntyre was attacked by CM Punk, allowing Priest to capitalize and leave with the title.
