Revolutionizing Urban Transportation: EHang Receives License for World’s First Mass-Produced eVTOL Flying Taxi in China

First flying taxi receives license for mass production

EHang, a Chinese drone maker, has received the first mass production license for an eVTOL flying taxi in the world from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). The EH216-S, developed and manufactured by EHang in Guangzhou, can be used in various fields such as passenger transportation, sky tours, cargo transportation, and emergency care. The aircraft has a comprehensive mass production quality management system that ensures each aircraft and component leaving the manufacturing line meets design and safety standards.

The EH216-S is equipped with eight foldable wings and 16 thrusters, allowing it to fly up to 30 km at a maximum speed of 130 km/h. It runs on green energy and features smart systems like flight control, battery management, and high-speed wireless network. With a height of 1.93 m and a width of 5.73 m, the EH216-S has a maximum takeoff weight of 620 kg and is designed to accommodate two passengers and luggage.

China’s government is actively promoting a low-altitude flight economy by hosting the 8th World Drone Congress in Shenzhen city from May 24 to May 26, 2024. The theme “Future low-altitude flight economy” will bring together nearly 500 domestic and foreign businesses to showcase their innovations in this field. Hu Huazhi, founder, chairman, and CEO of EHang aims to introduce a safe and reliable eVTOL model to the global market for automatic and environmentally friendly aerial transportation services.
