The Lebanese army has launched an investigation into the kidnapping and murder of an individual named Suleiman, who was abducted in the Jabil area. The security services traced Suleiman’s mobile phone to determine his whereabouts and who he was in contact with. The army’s intelligence directorate arrested members of a Syrian gang involved in the kidnapping, revealing that the abductee was killed during an attempted car theft before his body was transferred to Syria.
Following the discovery that the body had been taken into Syrian territory, anger was directed towards Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Lebanese Christians took to the streets in Jabeel and Burj Hamoud, leading to violent clashes. The Lebanese Forces party expressed dissatisfaction with the army’s findings and declared the incident a “political murder until proven otherwise.” Seven Syrians were arrested in connection with the case, including three suspected of murdering Suleiman.
